Q: Do I need to pay any commission fee for currency exchange?

We have commission fee 2EUR only, which is the smallest fee on Latvian market. You need to pay 2EUR only for one deal – it doesn’t matter if you exchange one currency to another or buy/sell many currencies in one deal.

Q: Can I split big banknotes or exchange small banknotes to larger denomination?

It is possible. We charge commission for this deal. Commission fees are mentioned in or pricelist. Starting from 2000 EUR client identification needed.

Q: Can I exchange currency which is not included in Tavex currency exchange list?

Normally we buy and sell currencies which are included in our currency exchange list. Please call us +371 6720 5533 or email tavex@tavex.lv to ask for currency you need or want to sell us. We will serve you in case if our business partners will deal with currency you need or have.

Q: Can I pay with my bank card?

Yes, it is possible. If you pay with card exchange rate will be up to 2.5% higher (percentage depends on card type). Our specialists will inform you about the rate during the deal.

Q: Can Tavex check my money?

Yes, there is opportunity to check euro or currency out of currency exchange deal. Price for this service is mentioned in Tavex pricelist . NB! All banknotes with counterfeit features will be confiscated and transferred to the Bank of Latvia for expert examination. In this case, Tavex will fill in confiscation act with clients contact information. After expert conclusion clients will be informed about results of it.

Q: Is it possible to sell damaged/mutilated euro or other currency banknotes?

To answer this question we need to see banknote at first. A banknote is deemed mutilated when its condition requires special examination to consider the value, if any, to be paid. Such banknotes could be burnt, discoloured, decomposed, damaged with portions missing and/or contaminated. Tavex will not accept banknote if it: a) is burned; b) is with colour bomb stains; c) is with signs of rotting; d) is part of whole banknote less then 75%; e) has any signs of counterfeiting; f) has “rust” stains that shine under the UV lamp. If banknote is damaged we accept it with 2% and more lower rate.

Q: How to handle gold?

As fine gold coins and bars are extremely soft, they can very easily be damaged. Product’s value is decreased when gold is scratched, bent or the original package has been opened. Here are some suggestions on how to properly handle gold coins to avoid damage and loss of value. Do not remove coins or bars from their package (plastic capsule, vacuum pack) unless it is absolutely necessary. Always pick up coins and bars only by their edges Never touch gold anywhere on its surface as fingerprints may reduce the value. Fingerprints cannot be removed from the mirror surface. Be aware that even the finest cloth makes small tiny scratches on the surface of a coin. If you need to touch gold products, it advisable to wear white, clean cloth gloves. Never try to bite gold to test its softness. Try not to let one coin touch another as nicks and scratches can result. Do not drag coins across any surface. When removing coins from a holder is necessary, place them on a clean, soft surface. A velvet pad is an ideal surface. A clean soft cloth or clean piece of blank paper may be sufficient for harder coins (coins with gold proof 900-917). PS! The above applies mainly to new gold coins and bars. Many historical gold coins have been in circulation and are therefore scratched and nicked. Gold market value has preserved in spite of that.
